Ronaldo denies marriage plans

Brazil soccer star Ronaldo denied earlier reports of plans to marry model Raica Olivera at Christmas, Brazilian magazine Veja said on its website on Thursday.

"I have nothing planned for that date beyond spending Chrismas with my family in Rio de Janeiro," he said, rejecting reports published by Italian and Brazilian media.

"Many daily papers say only stupid things without any commitment to truth. I never speak about my private life," he said.

He also described his supposed weight problems as a myth.

"Today I weight 88 kilos: 2.5 kilos more than in the 2002 World Cup. This is more of a myth than a real problem," he said. Brazil's press said that when he joined the World Cup soccer squad in Germany for training he weighed nearly 95 kilos.

The manager at his league club, Real Madrid, had asked him to lose weight and he admitted: Yes, the manager asked me to lose weight, and I did all that we planned. I am ready to play. There is no such thing as an ideal weight. The ideal weight is the one that makes you feel good."

Two weeks ago, Ronaldo broke his eight-month goal famine, and is now out to win his manager's heart.

"My current motivation is overcoming this difficult moment, which is something I never faced before. It's a way and I need to win it: to win his trust," he said.

Ronaldo said he aims to retire after the 2010 World Cup, which is due to be played in South Africa.

"I won't play for much longer and I don't think that time goes beyond 2010. The World Cup is a long way off, and I am not ruling out anything," he said.
