Sick tot terror for Gerrard
ENGLAND footie ace Steven Gerrard rushed his six-month-old baby Lexie to hospital in a meningitis scare.

The Liverpool star and fiancée Alex Curran were so frantic they ditched their car in an ambulance bay and ran into casualty with her. They had rushed to Whiston Hospital, near Liverpool, after the tot developed a rash and soaring temperature.

The couple then endured hours of torment not knowing if Lexie was stricken with the deadly brain bug.

She was detained overnight — and her parents “never left her side”, according to hospital sources. They then watched as Lexie’s condition thankfully stabilised.

The tot was yesterday given the all-clear. And the relieved couple took her back home to Formby, Merseyside.

A source close to them said: “Steven and Alex were at their wit’s end. Every parent’s worst nightmare in that situation is that their child has meningitis.”

Lexie was unwell on Saturday while being minded with sister Lily Ella, two, by Steven’s family. They thought it was teething trouble.

Alex, 24, was at a late-night bash and 26-year-old Steven was with Liverpool team-mates before their 2-0 defeat to Man Utd on Sunday. They dashed to hospital once they saw Lexie later that day. Docs suspect she had an allergy reaction.

Alex goes wild for fashion

October 27, 2006

WAG Alex Curran shows she still has the legs for shopping’s Premier League.

Steven Gerrard’s girlfriend was snapped loaded down with leopard-print bags on a trip to Cricket boutique in Liverpool.

The leggy beauty, 24, showed off her booty in a sexy short black dress and knee-length boots.

She hired a personal shopper for 1½hours to pick some new outfits.

We think she looks furry nice in the one she’s wearing.

Benitez: Gerrard is going nowhere

Rafael Benitez has insisted Steven Gerrard is not for sale and is still happy at Anfield.

Liverpool's inspirational captain has again been linked with a move to Real Madrid - and reports have also suggested the England midfielder has an uneasy relationship with his manager and is unhappy at being denied a central midfield role.

But Benitez, who guided Liverpool to a morale-boosting 3-1 victory over Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday, has dismissed claims of a rift, insisting: "It is clear I will not be selling my captain.

"It is always a surprise to see such things that are not true. Especially for Steven because he had played such a good game.

"Against Villa, he worked really hard, so to see this the following day is a surprise. It's disappointing this is all people can think of talking about.

"I have not had just 'a word' with Steven, we talk many times, every day. He is my captain and we talk all the time, sometimes for a long time. To say anything else is crazy."

Gerrard, 26, has spent the last week worried about his six-month-old daughter Lexi, who has been in hospital recovering from symptoms similar to meningitis.

And Benitez added: "This week we have been talking with Steven, and last week. He was okay, we were talking about his daughter and how she is, as well as team issues and how we can give the team more confidence.

"I feel he is really focused on the club and our idea for sure is to keep him and to see him scoring goals this season and for many years for Liverpool."

Gerrard produced one of his best displays of the season on Saturday, helping the Reds end Villa's unbeaten league record.

Liverpool raced into a 3-0 half-time lead after goals from Dirk Kuyt, Peter Crouch and Luis Garcia. Gabriel Agbonlahor scored the Villa consolation.

LIVERPOOL captain Steven Gerrard tried to stay in the background when he and his partner Alex Curran attended his mother's wedding.

Julie Ann tied the knot yesterday with long-term partner Stephen at a lowkey ceremony near their home in Southport.

Fresh from his heroics for his side in Saturday's game against Reading, the 26-year-old, in a designer suit, was determined not to be snapped by waiting paparazzi on his mother's big day.

He ignored the crowd of around 20 well-wishers who had gathered outside the church as his minders shielded him and his fiancee with coats.

At the end of the service, the couple jumped straight into a waiting Range Rover.

Ms Curran, wearing a beige leaf-design blouse and black city shorts, carried their six-month-old baby daughter, Lexie.

The little girl and her older sister Lilly-Ella, two, were dressed in identical white frocks for their grandmother's celebration.

After the service at Southport's redbrick Holy Trinity Church, the pair joined around 70 close family and friends to toast the newly-weds with a Champagne reception at a country hotel.

Julie Ann split from Paul Gerrard soon after the LFC ace was born, but the footballer remains close to her.

CURRAN IN CLEAR OVER MEAL ROW

MODEL Alex Curran, the fiancėe of England footballer Steven Gerrard, will not be charged over a restaurant fracas.

Alex, 23, was arrested on suspicion of assault in August after an 18-year-old woman claimed the mum-of-two had struck her in the face with a bottle, giving her a black eye.

Glamorous Alex, who is also a Mirror columnist, was then questioned by police and freed on bail.

But yesterday the Crown Prosecution Service said: "No further action will be taken."

Alex had enjoyed a meal with Liverpool skipper Gerrard and two friends before the early hours incident, which occurred after the player had left.

The couple, of Formby, Merseyside, have girls Lilly-Ella, two, and three-month-old Lexie. Alex was unavailable for comment.

He stinks it's all over

November 13, 2006

STEVEN GERRARD holds his nose after another stinking away display ended Liverpool’s slim hopes of prising their way into the title race.

The Kop captain was also involved in a bust-up with John Arne Riise as the Reds were humiliated.

The pair clashed in a heated exchange after William Gallas was left unmarked to score Arsenal’s third 10 minutes from time.

Angry Kop boss Rafa Benitez has now demanded his flops show more steel away from Anfield.

Liverpool have picked up only ONE point and scored just ONE goal away this season — a penalty in the opening-day draw at Sheffield United.

And Benitez rapped: “It was not good enough. I am not looking for excuses. I want my team to show more character away from home.

“As a team we need to improve away from home. It was clear we didn’t play well in the second half. We made mistakes.

“We created chances in the first half and everything was there. We had no problems until we conceded late in the first half and then so early in the second half.

“We need to start playing as we do at home. We must know how we can do that.

“I have some ideas but I need to work with my players on the pitch.”

Liverpool have now lost at Manchester United, Chelsea, Bolton and city rivals Everton as well as the Gunners — who are now up to third in the Premiership table.

Benitez added: “Today the second goal was the key. We lost our confidence after that.

“But I am not even thinking about the title race at the moment, just the next three games and the next three points.” Arsene Wenger has admitted he was wrong over his bust-up with West Ham chief Alan Pardew last week.

The Arsenal boss, who shook hands with Benitez at the final whistle, said: “I have been on the bench for 22 years and I know when I am right and when I am wrong. I am not an image man.

“I work for Arsenal — for my club — and sometimes I go further than I should. And I am adult enough to know when I am in the wrong and I have to accept it.

“I felt provoked in a disrespectful way. I reacted and I regret it, you should never react.

“Alan Pardew has apologised and I accept his apology. For me the incident is over.”
