RONALDO IN SHOCK MADRID MEETING
WORLD EXCLUSIVE Man United star's chance encounter with Real officials in Dubai hotel
CRISTIANO Ronaldo met Real Madrid officials during his mid-season break in Dubai.
Sir Alex Ferguson gave his blessing to the trip after deciding to rest Ronaldo last weekend.
But United were shocked to discover - after a Sunday Mirror Sport investigation - that Madrid officials had been staying at the same hotel.
Quizzed by United yesterday, Ronaldo insisted it was a chance meeting and that he had bumped into the Real delegation as he was leaving the hotel.
But in Spain, sources close to Real Madrid claim that club officials outlined their future plans to Ronaldo and his agent, who was with him.
Real's delegation were in Dubai visiting a football academy in the area.
There is no suggestion that Ronaldo, who is 22 tomorrow, and Madrid were involved in illegal talks.
But the Old Trafford hierarchy are becoming tired by the continued specualation linking their young star with a summer move to the Bernabeu. In Spain Ronaldo is openly named as Real's prime transfer target for the summer.
Ronaldo has a desire to play in Spain one day and both Real and Barcelona have made it clear they would be interested in signing him.
Ferguson has insisted Ronaldo, who still has more than three years to run on his current contract, is not for sale.
Old Traf ford chief executive David Gill has said United would not even sell the Madeira-born ace for a world record £45m.

BARCA IN RONALDO SWOOP
CRISTIANO RONALDO'S future at Manchester United has become even more uncertain as Barcelona join Real Madrid in the hunt for the winger.
Barca ace Deco sent his Portugal pal a ‘come and join me' message that will send a chill through United fans.
Sport of the World told you last month that Real Madrid had made Ronaldo their top summer target. And United boss Sir Alex Ferguson now faces an even bigger task trying to keep his star.
Deco said: "Cristiano should come to Barcelona. He has a lot of talent and he's very young. But it looks difficult that United will let him go."
Midfielder Deco has the same agent, Jorge Mendes. Deco's claims came in the same week that Mendes' right-hand man Sergio Alves left open the possibility of Ronaldo leaving in the summmer, despite Fergie's dismissal of Madrid's interest.
We told you a fortnight ago that United had invited Mendes for talks over a new double-your-money deal to prolong Ronaldo's current contract which expires in 2010.
But Ronaldo's advisors look set to play hardball as they thrash out a new £100,000-a-week deal. |

Ron(aldo) Atkinson
Date : 10.01.2007
GEMMA Atkinson is the 22nd sexiest babe in the world, according to the Star’s knowing readership.
Gemma is sexier than Jade Goody (36), Imogen Thomas (40) and Paris Hilton (5449). Gemma is less sexy than Angelina Jolie (1), Cheryl Cole (4) and Jennifer Ellison (14).
Gemma, who features in the soap opera Hollyoaks and is currently appearing on the pro-celebrity singing contest Soapstar Superstar, is mixing with some high company. One day she may scale the lofty heights of the Star’s Top Ten. As she is reported to have scaled Manchester United’s winking winger Cristiano Ronaldo.
Gemma arrives on the Star’s cover page bent over and dressed in a pair of spotty stockings and a red sting vest. Yesterday the Sun told us that Gemma has been “enjoying steamy training sessions” with the Portugeezer.
Gemma has already dated one footballer, Charlton striker Marcus Bent. And back in February last year she romanced footballer’s son Calum Best. "Calum really loves busty ladies. And he couldn't believe his luck when Gemma took his hand and led him into the toilet for a closer look,” said a source at the time. "They were all over each other in the back of the cab at the end of the night. And Calum couldn't get his key in the lock quick enough."
Now Gemma is with Ronaldo. Or not. “Hollyoaks Gemma on Ronaldo & sex,” advertises the Star’s front page, the teaser seeming to emerge from Gemma’s raised backside.
Inside, anther headline: “GEM: RON NEVER SCORED WITH ME.” Gemma, now dressed in a pink fishnet stockings and a shiny leather pelmet, says that she has been on a few dates with the footballer.
A “friend” tells us: “They are dating and nothing more. She’s not going to rush into anything so soon after splitting from Marcus.”
But what of the promised sex? Is Gemma letting Ronaldo hit the back, front and sides of her (fish)nets with a rare aplomb?
Gemma isn’t saying. Unlike much else about her, her romance with a top footballer is something she’s keeping under wraps... |

Ron will not leave United
February 05, 2007
CRISTIANO RONALDO'S agent insists the winger is happy at Manchester United — despite growing interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Ronaldo, 22 today, was on the verge of quitting Old Trafford last summer after causing controversy with his antics following Wayne Rooney's red card at the World Cup.
But Sir Alex Ferguson persuaded him to stay and the Portuguese ace has repaid his manager's faith by spearheading United's title challenge.
And Jorge Mendes claims his client could not be happier with life in Manchester.
Mendes said: "It's normal that half the world is asking after Cristiano because he is delivering exhibition performances in every game.
"But Manchester United have repeated their intention not to sell him and I would do the same if I was a United director.
"It's no secret there is interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona.
"For us the matter does not exist and we are negotiating the renewal of his contract." |

Ronaldo must join Barcelona
February 05, 2007
PHIL SCOLARI has urged Cristiano Ronaldo to join Barcelona.
Portugal coach Big Phil reckons the Manchester United winger must quit Old Trafford this summer to improve.
He blasted: “The basic education stage of his career is ending and I know Cristiano is ready for a change of atmosphere.
“Barcelona would hugely enjoy having Cristiano in their team because he would complement Ronaldinho perfectly — they have different characteristics.
“For Cristiano, the Barcelona climate would be important — most days are sunny and it’s hardly ever cold like England.
“That gives a player all the motivation he needs to train and play.”
Big Phil also took a swipe at Barca’s Spanish rivals Real Madrid.
Both clubs are willing to spend between £40million and £50m on Portuguese ace Ronaldo, who turns 22 today.
Brazilian Scolari added: “Cristiano needs to move somewhere where the team is an integral part of the club — not somewhere where the system is based on individual ‘heroes’ or ‘stars’.
“Moving to a club where there are four or five ‘stars’ who do their own thing is unworkable.” |

Cristiano: Please don't boo me
February 06, 2007
CRISTIANO RONALDO says his perfect birthday present would be for rival fans to get off his back.
Ronaldo, 22 yesterday, said: “It would be good if they stopped booing me.
“When I played against Arsenal, nobody booed me. I hope nobody boos me again.”
Manchester United’s Portugal winger angered fans around the country for his World Cup antics, which included a wink at team-mates after Wayne Rooney had been sent off during the Three Lions’ quarter-final clash.
And he stirred up a new tumble storm on Sunday by winning a penalty during United’s 4-0 romp at Spurs.
Preparing for Portugal’s clash with Brazil at the Emirates tonight, Ronaldo added: “The goal and the assist against Tottenham were a birthday present I gave myself and they were a beautiful present.
“When I came to England I was very young but with all the experiences I’ve had, I’ve grown up quickly and I’m more mature. At 22, I’m not a kid any more.”
